A citizen task force is studying the impact of current parking requirements on recent higher density residential developments in the University District, and is drafting recommendations for parking requirements in the future. For more details and to register for this free forum go to

Growing Smart: Training for Community Leaders in the University District

Growing Smart, Part One took place on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.  The training was designed especially for community members who work with zoning and land use, and developers, in their neighborhood, and others who care about the future of their community. See Growing Smart, Part One Training documents attached below.

Growing Smart, Part Two, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the University Lutheran Church of Hope, Fellowship Hall, 601 13th Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Please register at growing smarter.eventbrite.com

Work of the Alliance

Since the beginning of 2008, the Alliance Steering Committee has formed four work teams, each of which is charged with doing substantive work on the behalf of the Alliance.  The Steering Committee, work teams, and their subcommittees are all volunteer.  The Alliance is staffed with in-kind support, principally from the Office of University Relations at the University of Minnesota.

 The various initiatives fall within these categories:

Strengthening Homeownership

Livability: Quality of Life

Creating a Vision for the University District 

Energy and Sustainability
